A popular teaching assistant will swap school books for running shoes when she takes part in the Great North Run on Sunday.
Lisa Williamson, of Malton, has spent the past eight months training for her first ever half marathon and is hoping to raise £500 for Kidney Research UK.
“I decided to enter it on a whim,” said Lisa, an advanced teaching assistant at Malton Community Primary School. “I have literally been training one day a week for six to eight months.
“I’ll run when I have a day off and try to add an extra mile or two each week.”
She chose Kidney Research UK after being moved by a television programme on the subject and the difficulties faced by people who must use dialysis machines.
Lisa said: “You don’t hear a lot about Kidney Research and seeing this programme of what they have to go through with their dialysis machines made me say I’m going to do something to help them.”
Anyone who would like to sponsor Lisa should visit www.kidneyresearchukevents.org and searching for Lisa Williamson.
