Local support is more important then ever for organisers of this year’s Pickering Christmas illuminations.
Members with the Christmas Lights Group have began their annual envelop drop to homes and businesses as they look to raise money to light up the town over the festive season.
“This year we will not be receiving any funding from either the town or district councils, so local support and envelope donations will be more important than ever,” said a group spokesman. “Contributions from the community will be vital to this year’s display, and residents can be confident that every penny donated will make a genuine difference.”
Volunteers are also needed to help with the switch-on ceremony which will take place on Saturday, November 23, and will feature festive entertainment including a Christmas market from 12pm until 6pm. Market stalls are available for £10 - or £5 for community groups with anyone interested in a stall or volunteering asked to contact (01751) 476850. Donations can be made at Reeds Newsagents in the Market Place up to November 2. All entries will be entered into a cash prize draw.
