The plight of some Ryedale householders who have struggled to get insurance cover after their homes were hit by flooding, was raised by the area’s MP, Anne McIntosh in Parliament last week.
She told a debate on the Government’s Water Bill that she wanted clarification on insurance implications for leasehold properties where there are more than four flats in a building.
“The Government seems to think there will be cover, while those living locally in such properties are being told there is not,” said Miss McIntosh, MP for Thirsk and Malton.
Miss McIntosh said there was a need for “urgent and overall reform” of water abstraction.
“Without it there will be increasing pressure on water use as between farmers, industry and other users such as anglers.”
