LADIES from across the district are gearing up to show their support for Cancer Research UK by taking part in Race for Life in the coming weeks.
They will be donning pink outfits and either walking, jogging or running the 5k courses at Scarborough’s North Promenade on Sunday, May 13, or The Knavesmire, York, on Wednesday, June 27.
One group of ladies on a mission is The RV ‘A-Team.’
Staff members of Ryedale Voluntary Action will join forces to take part in the Scarborough event for the second year running.
Barbara Murray, the ringleader, has persuaded us all to get our running shoe on once again and some of us will be running in memory of friends and loved ones,” said funding advisor Sarah Lally-Marley. “We are all aiming to run the whole 5K and have been braving the bad weather to get ready. Now all we really need is a nice sunny day and everything will be perfect.

Also returning for a second stab at Race for Life is Gemma Piercy, a florist at The Topiary Tree, Malton.
This year she will be joined by her boyfriend’s mum, Sandra Phillips, for the 5k run at The Knavesmire in York and is aiming to top the £100 she raised last year for Cancer Research UK.
“I’ve raised £45 so far but with the help of friends and customers I’m aiming to beat that figure,” said Gemma.
And not to be outdone by his better half, boyfriend Darren Felgate is also doing his bet for cancer charities by booking his place on The Great Yorkshire Bike Ride, a 72 mile ride from Wetherby to Filey on June 16.
He has raised £ for Yorkshire Cancer Research so far.
