A life-changing trip is on the horizon for Connor Leeming – if he can raise the £3,000 needed to fund his journey.
But luckily Feversham Explorer Unit have agreed to pull out all the stops to send their comrade to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan next year.
Connor is one of only 36 scouts from North Yorkshire to be invited to the jamboree which is held every four years.
Part of the funds will also help an underprivileged scout from another country to attend the event.
The theme of the Japan jamboree will be “Wa” – meaning harmony, unity, friendship and peace – creating a “spirit of unity” to share others’ cultures and faiths.
Connor will visit Hiroshima Peace Park and take part in community work, explore Japanese culture and spend time living in a Japanese family home.
Assistant Explorer leader Ian Lee said: “We were all so pleased when Connor passed the selection interview and now we are all working really hard to help him raise the money”.
So far, a raffle at the Hambleton Inn has raised more than £100 with a quiz at The Inn at Hawnby also adding to Connor’s travel costs and Hawnby Children’s Fund.
Next up is a Body Shop at Home and Phoenix Cards night at the Scout Hut, Helmsley, on Friday at 7pm. All are welcome.
