Mayor’s marathon feat hits the finish
THE Mayor of Pickering completed the Pickering and Moors 10k run on Sunday to achieve his hat trick of runs for his summer fundraising drive for voluntary groups in the town.
Cllr William Oxley said: “After a difficult summer with injuries and ill health in the family, it was good to finally get the last one over - especially with it being based in the town and raising funds for St Joseph’s Primary School.”
Funds raised will go to help voluntary groups needing help with specific items and projects and will be added to with further fundraising in the next six months.
Cllr Oxley added: “I have committed to buy ballast for the Newbridge Park Group so they can start on chicanes to protect young riders entering the woods, also to help the Christmas Lights Group with bulbs to illuminate more of the town.
“Groups like this do great work for the town and are completely dependent on committed volunteers and they really need our support.”
