MP Anne McIntosh has led a delegation of civic leaders on a tour of Derwent Training Association which is seeking to expand its operation to better train its apprentices.

The Thirsk, Malton and Filey MP was joined by the Leader and Chairman of Ryedale District Council, among others, for the visit to its headquarters on the York Road Industrial Estate, Malton, on Friday.

Created in 1988, Derwent Training Association was built on the idea that high quality, industry led training in partnership with employers and other providers was vital.

Since then more than 1,000 apprentices have been trained by industry professionals in areas such as welding, technical design work and electronics. Funding comes from the Skills Funding Agency.

“It is a great success story for Ryedale,” said Miss McIntosh. “The association has provided a centre of excellence in which apprentices can go to learn new skills and gain valuable qualifications.”

Now the aim is for Derwent Training Association to expand as it is outgrowing its premises.
