A major housing development in the heart of Helmsley is being recommended for approval by North York Moors National Park planners.
However, members of the park’s planning committee will be told at tomorrow’s meeting that there have been objections that the development of 21 homes at the rear of the Black Swan and Crown Hotels in the Market Place, will be an over-development of the site.
Helmsley Estate at Duncombe Park, says there will be a loss of car parking and the design of the windows is out of keeping with Helmsley’s character.
Other objectors say there is a lack of affordable housing in the development by Kwani Services Ltd.
But Park planning officers say: “The application site is between a Grade 2 listed building, a 1970’s modern hotel extension, inter-war suburban housing and 1980’s contemporary housing. Officers consider the contemporary approach is wholly appropriate on a site already approved for residential development.”
