Park plans begin to gather pace
THE arrangements for the takeover of Malton and Norton Skatepark are progressing, says Malton Town Council.
The authority is teaming up with its neighbouring town council in Norton to manage the skate park on Railway Street, Norton.
Discussions to extend the lease with the Fitzwilliam (Malton) Estate, the landowner, are said to be “proceeding successfully.”
Before they take on the lease, the town councils have asked Ryedale District Council to carry out repairs which will then be independently inspected.
The town councils will then take over the lease from the previous owners, Ryedale District Council, from April.
Di Keal, the Mayor of Norton, and Malton Mayor, Jason Fitzgerald-Smith, are due to meet today to discuss operating arrangements. This will be followed by safety inspection training for councillors and the town clerks.
Malton and Norton Skatepark is viewed as one of the most popular attractions for young people in Ryedale and regularly attracts skate boarders, in-line skaters and BMX bikers from across the country.
