Shock resignation of Conservative leader

LINDA Cowling has been named the new leader of the Conservative Group on Ryedale District Council following the shock resignation of Cllr Keith Knaggs.

Cllr Knaggs, who had led the group for 17 years, stepped down earlier this week and will also relinquish his post of Leader of the council.

In a statement he said that the decision had been made as he no longer had the full confidence of his colleagues.

Cllr Cowling, of Pickering, said: “I am looking forward to working with my own group and the rest of the Ryedale District Councillors in order to maintain the best services we can for the people of Ryedale,”

She will be elected leader of Ryedale District Council at its meeting in January.
