Ryedale Swimming Club continues to look to the future as it celebrated its past recently.
The club marked its 40th birthday with a party at Pickering Recreation Club where current and former members, teachers and helpers were invited to enjoy a hog roast and look through photos and memorabilia from throughout its history.
The event also provided an opportunity to relaunch the club by introducing a new logo and matching kit in the new colours of green and purple. A competition among swimmers to design the logo was won by Harriet Evans, Georgia Wood, Emily Robson and Helen Davies (pictured).
New arrangements for teaching and coaching are also being introduced.
The club, which is run entirely by volunteers, was created by Ester Ellis and others who had taken it upon themselves to teach children to swim by taking them for lessons around the county before Pickering Pool was built. Once the pool was built, the group were then responsible for the formation of the club.
