Thornton-le-Dale Show promises to be a picturesque stopping off point for an American band during its tour of England and Scotland.

The Central Lakes College Community Band, which is based in Brainerd, Minnesota, will visit the show as part of a ten day visit that will see it perform in venues as diverse as city parks, amphitheatres and the great hall at Edinburgh Castle.

Martin Blythe, the chairman of Thornton-le-Dale Show, jumped at the chance to book the 35-strong band after it had a spare date in its calendar and believes it will offer something new for showgoers.

Under the direction of Steve Anderson, the band will perform music from American composers such as Aaron Copland, John Williams, John

Phillip Sousa, Frank Bencriscutto, and others.

It is the second overseas tour for the band with many of its members having participated in the first trip in 2011
to Prague, Budapest and Vienna.

Now celebrating its 21st year, the band was formed by Mr Anderson in 1993 under the sponsorship of Central Lakes College.

Members are aged 16 and older and features musicians of High School or better skill level.

As well as Thornton-le-Dale Show, concerts will be played with London Metropolitan Brass Band during a four-day stay in London, followed by two days in York and three days in Edinburgh where the band will perform in the great hall of Edinburgh Castle.
