People in Kirkbymoorside are gearing up for yet another planning battle when an application for a second major housing development goes before Ryedale District Council next week.
Gladman Developments Ltd is seeking outline planning permission for 225 homes on land at Westfields, New Road to Kirkdale Lane, with the proposed development also including highways improvements and landscaping.
The application, which is being recommended for approval by planning officers, is set to be heard by the council’s planning committee at Lady Lumley’s School, Pickering, on Tuesday at 6pm.
It is the third application from the developer which was controversially given planning permission last year when a councillor mistakenly pressed the wrong button during a vote, allowing the planning committee chairman to use his casting vote to approve the development of 260 homes, also in the Westfield area of Kirkbymoorside.
The fall-out following the decision subsequently led to a High Court judge granting permission for a Judicial Review to look at the legality of the decision.
Planning officers, who have sought expert advice, recommend this latest application be approved – subject to a 106 agreement with the developer.
It is understood a show of hands, instead of the electronic system, will be used for the vote.
