Transport police seek suspect
British Transport Police want to speak to this man in connection with an incident on a York to Scarborough train
Officers from British Transport Police are seeking to identify a man they would like to speak to after a female passenger was verbally abused on board a train between York and Scarborough.
PC Harry Thompson, the investigating officer, said: “The victim, a 37-year-old woman from Hunmanby, was travelling on the 20.53 York to Scarborough service on Saturday, December 1, when she got up to walk down the train aisle to go to the toilet.
“When she passed a group of approximately 10 men, one of them is alleged to have attempted to trip her up. When the victim challenged them about their actions, she was verbally abused by one of the men.
Officers have conducted several lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV footage and have since identified a man they believe has key information about the incident.
PC Thompson added: “The language used was extremely derogatory and unpleasant. This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and we are determined to find the person responsible.
“We would encourage anyone who recognises the man in the picture, or knows his whereabouts, to get in touch. I would also like to appeal to anyone who was on the train at the time and witnessed the incident to come forward.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B6/NEA of 09/01/2013. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
