Village hall gets funding boost

THREE projects in the Ryedale area have been given a major cash boost by grants from the North York Moors, Coast and Hills LEADER Programme.

Wilton Village Hall, near Pickering, has been handed £19,750 to help it upgrade the hall and make it accessible in the winter - providing a meeting place for young and old alike. The total cost of the village hall project is £59,000.

Elsewhere, a LEADER grant of £35,700 will be used to develop a Local Distinctiveness Project in the North York Moors with a further £8,322 to be used on improvements at Fadmoor Village Hall.

The LEADER main programme has now allocated £2.6m to 65 rural projects since 2009 with a further £2.7m in match funding.

Peter Spencer, chairman of the LEADER Executive Group, said: “I am sure the grants will have an enormous impact in the villages which were successful and I am looking forward to seeing how the projects develop.”
