Warning after vans ransacked

THE police are reminding workmen not to leave their tools in their vans overnight.

The appeal comes as thieves raided two vehicles on the same night, a case which officers believe to be linked.

In the first reported incident, thieves bent the back door of a Renault Kangoo parked on Peasey Hill, Malton, in the early hours of Sunday morning and took a £600 petrol Stihl saw and a yellow Dewalt hand drill.

On the same night, a Vauxhall Combo van parked in Sainsbury’s car park was also broken into.

The owner reported that
ladders valued at £40 had been taken as had a £180 Makita radio and a bag with three drills, including a £400 Makita drill, among other tools.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 1923 Sarah Owen at Malton Police Station on 101.
