Warning over car crime

THE theft of two suitcases and a hold-all from a car has prompted Ryedale police to issue a warning to all motorists.

A grey Nissan Navara had been parked in the car park of The Grapes Inn, Ebberston, when it was broken into on Thursday, sometime between 7pm and 9pm.

Police now want car owners and their passengers to be wary when leaving their personal belongings.

Inspector Andy Everitt, commander of Ryedale’s police force, stressed that it is important for members of the public to take their property with them when leaving the vehicles in car parks.

He warned that it was entering the season when public car parks are targeted by thieves who roam along the A170 and A169, usually between the hours of 5pm to 9pm.

“If recent years are anything to go by, we will see a spike of thefts from unattended motor vehicles in the months of October and November,” said Inspector Everitt.
