CAYTON 2nds managed to hold off Snainton as they won by just one run to edge out of the bottom two.
Scarborough Rugby Club’s Marcus Edwards was the star of the show in what was a good day for bowlers.

Cayton didn’t make the best of starts to the game, closing on 122, with Jez Riley’s 27 being the top score.

The in-form Paul Kinghorn, who has
already passed the 30-wicket mark for the season, took 5-46, while Leigh Watson bagged 4-59.

Steve Eyre hit 38 to lead the reply and Dave Bell remained unbeaten on the same figure, but a 20-over spell of 6-38 from Edwards made sure Snainton stumbled with one over remaining.

Brompton dropped off the pace at the top after they suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Fylingdales.

Brompton were dismissed for just 107, with Mark Estill’s 18-over spell of 7-39 proving to be a problem they couldn’t solve.

A knock of 29 from Peter Gibson and 32 not out from Dave Nichols pushed Brompton to 117.

Fylingdales cruised to victory, with scores in the 30s from Andrew Wood and Ben Noble leading them home.

Second-placed Settrington also suffered a promotion blow when they lost at home to Sewerby 2nds.

Scores of 34 from Martin Jackson and 35 from Andy Taylor helped Settrington to 117 by the time the sandwiches came out. John Blythe (5-31) and Sam Cooper (3-23) shone with the ball.

Andy Monkman gave Settrington hope with 3-35, but Vince Clarke and Callum Sinclair both hit 26 and Ian Dennis went one better to book Sewerby’s win.

Ganton dipped into the drop zone after they came out on the wrong end of a six-wicket result against Ryedale.

Anthony Allison (25) was Ganton’s only form batsman, as Shaun Smith took five wickets for just 12 runs.

Knocks in the 20s from Ryan Boyes and Rob Featherstone booked Ryedale’s victory.

Wold Newton slipped further into trouble after they lost by four wickets against ThorntonDale.

Chris Headlam’s 5-24 from 15 overs and Pete Lockwood’s 4-28 from eight overs took out Newton for 75. Dave Meer scoring the majority of the runs with his 27.

Dale also found the going difficult, as Charlie Gray’s 3-24 and Tim Lazenby’s 3-39 dumped them on the back foot.

They did have enough to pass the mark though, with 27 from Tim Hodgson seeing them through.
