Ebberston upset the form book to beat Evening League champs Staxton by 36 runs in the AndyHire Harburn Cup Final at North Marine Road.
After being put into bat by Staxton skipper Chris Dove, Ebberston produced a gritty display, helped by a crucial knock of 68no by opener Tom Brough, who was well supported by all-rounder Tom Bumby (30) and Aussie Dylan Bolton (32).

The Ebberston batsmen regularly found the boundary, clearing it on a number of occasions, with Rob Pinder, 1-49, and Chris Dove, 1-50, both proving expensive at the death.

Brough proved to be the mainstay of the Ebberston innings, batting out the overs in style with some fantastic shots in the closing overs when joined by Mike Horsley (23) at the crease to take their final score to a strong 167-4.

The Staxton reply got off to a dismal start when Bumby dismissed Tom Nicholson for five and James Armstrong for a duck in the second over.

Chris Dove and Rob Pinder shared a decent partnership to steady the Staxton ship, with Dove producing a fantastic array of shots to give his side hope, including two sixes in two balls on his way to 36 off 27 balls.

But the result was put beyond doubt when 15-year-old Ebberston starlet Matty Turnbull claimed the crucial wicket of Dove, before removing Josh Bullen on his way to figures of 2-22 from his four-over spell, which troubled the Staxton batsmen throughout.

All rounder Eddie Craggs also bowled well to claim figures of 5-15, including the dismissal of Pinder (40), who struggled during his time at the crease, with Webster and Bumby bowling well in tandem with Turnbull and Craggs.

Staxton never got to grips with the run chase, only Andy Dove reached double figures other than Dove and Pinder, with the Ebberston bowling attack dominating throughout.

Ebberston skipper Richard Webster praised his side's efforts during the after-match presentation.

He said: "I think we were due a win against them. We played well, Matty Turnbull and Eddie Craggs bowled really well and Tom Brough batted excellently too."

Staxton captain Dove added: "Congratulations to Ebberston, the best side won on the night."
