Slingsby 121-8 beat Ryedale 120-5 by 2wkts
Ex-Yorkshire and Essex pace bowler Nick Thornicroft was instrumental in steering Slingsby to a win over Ryedale.

Shaun Smith, 37, Nicky Ibbotson, 21, and Rob Featherstone 22 saw Ryedale to a respectable total.

Thornicroft took 1-26 in his four
overs.

Wayne Fawcett, 2-33, kept up his good performances this season and J Hatfield chipped in with 2-39.

Thornicroft dominated the Slingsby innings with 48 ably supported by M Foster, 20, and they took the visitors to the win.

Sam Burns took 3-43 and Vernon Smith once again proved a handful returning 1-8 from three overs.

Slingsby 93-7 tied with Whitwell 93-4

This was an exciting encounter which went down to the last ball that saw Whitwell scramble a leg bye to tie the match.

Slingsby lost the toss and were put into bat on a moist wicket and Wayne Fawcett batted particularly well.

Whitwell came into bat knowing they needed 94 to win but Slingsby pegged them back until the ninth over when Whitwell fired back to make it a great end to the game.

Simon Thornton took 4-15 for Slingsby

Great Habton 89-7 beat Brawby 69-5 by 20 runs

Habton batted first and initially struggled.

A run-out and a combination of on-the-spot bowling by John Crowe, 1-29, and Rhys Crowe, 3-22, had them on 27-4 in the fifth over.

Opener Johnny Dunning, 47no, stood firm throughout and figured in a fifth-wicket stand with skipper Wayne Dawson, 13, worth 34. Andy Slaughter, 13, extended the total to give the home bowlers more to defend.

Wayne Dawson, 2-8, and Andy Slaughter, 1-9, bowled naggingly accurate four-over spells, leaving Brawby on 22-3 after eight overs.

Simon King, 22, weathered the storm and Mark Fairweather, 15, was unfortunate to have to retire in the last over when he stood firm at the non-striker’s end and took a fierce blow on his wrist.

Brawby finished 20 runs short when the overs expired.

Great Habton 55-2 beat Swinton & Broughton 49-8 by 8 wkts

Swinton deserve some credit for surviving their allotted 12 overs but could not make a great deal of Troy Dawson’s full allocation taking 3-6. Wayne Dawson had 13 knocked off his first over to finish with 2-19.

S Marshall, 17, and Richie Allenby, 15no, did their best to achieve respectability.

Johnny Dunning, 28no, led Great Habton to a victory with a six of the first delivery of the sixth over.

Will Lund took the only two wickets to fall for 22 runs in three overs.

Ampleforth 98-6 beat Burythorpe 97-7 by 4 wkts

This close-fought match ended in some controversy with Ampleforth getting the winning runs with a ball to spare.

Batting first, Burythorpe toiled against some tight bowling from J Skelton, who finished with excellent figures of 2-7 from four overs.

His wickets were the key ones of Matt Beckett and Andy Milner, and it was left to young Grant Stephens to rebuild the innings and take Burythorpe to a decent total.
