MALTON and Norton could play their part in a historic match next month when Scarborough Rugby Union Club aims to host its first ever Yorkshire One game under floodlights at its Silver Royd ground.
Scarborough officials are looking to play the match with Malton - postponed because of snow and ice on Saturday - on a Wednesday evening in mid-March, with March 17 the favoured date.

The weekend postponement was the latest fixture blow for Scarborough, whose first team have not played at home for almost two months.

The knock-on effect has been a hefty financial loss over that period, and club official Graeme Young explained: "We're hoping a game under floodlights, against local opposition like Malton, will bring in a decent crowd and help to offset the revenue losses of recent weeks.

"We talked to Malton club officials after Saturday's game was called off and they will get back to us about playing under lights in midweek after they have had more time to discuss it.

"We have also made initial contact with the league and they have said there shouldn't be any problems, so it could be all systems go and we should have a definite date announced within the next few days."

Meanwhile, Malton will be hoping to return to Yorkshire One action on Saturday when they play their re-arranged fixture at Dinnington, which was postponed shortly before Christmas.
