MALTON and Norton club officials have mixed views about not being in the Senior Vase next season.
Due to a lack of sponsorship for the event, only one side from the county will take their place in the competition, with Yorkshire Shield winners Bradford Salem getting the nod.
This denies the likes of Malton and Scarborough the chance to play in a Twickenham final - a feat Malton achieved when they won the 2001 Junior Vase at the headquarters of English rugby.
Malton’s Bill Laidler said: “EDF pulled their sponsorship so the RFU had to have a look at how many teams could enter. It takes away your chance of playing at Twickenham, but at the same time you can end up with a backlog of fixtures.”
Malton are set to return to training on July 14 ahead of the new season.
