Cooper fires Rovers into second spot

UNION Rovers 2nds moved ahead of opponents Snainton Reserves and into second spot in the division two table thanks to a 5-2 home win.

Snainton took the lead through a fortunate own goal, but the hosts were soon on level pegging and were deservedly 3-1 ahead at half-time.

Snainton improved after the break but still lost as the home side struck twice more, player-boss Dan Bateson scoring with a header for the visitors.

Man of the match, central midfielder Ryan Cooper and Luke Dawson both scored a brace of goals, with Anthony Taylor also on target for a rampant Rovers.

Pickering Knights went above mid-table rivals Heslerton Reserves after beating the villagers 3-1 on their home turf.

Strikers Rowan South and Adam Ridley bagged a goal apiece for the Knights, with midfielder Josh Fawcett completing the scoring for the visitors.

Left-sided midfielder Greg Fawcett was the man of the match for Pickering.

In the Gordon Harrison Memorial Trophy, Gillamoor romped to a 7-2 home win against fellow division one mid-table outfit Bagby & Balk.

Skipper Luke Tateson led by example for the home side, the striker banging in two goals.

Left-winger Josh Tateson, who was man of the match, also netted for the Gills, along with central midfielders Daryl Rivis and Scott Simpson, and sub Sam Brooker. The home team’s tally was completed by an own goal.
