Cameron Dobson opened the scoring for Jay Taylor’s side after 20 minutes with a solid strike and five minutes before half-time, fine work from Ricky Tomlinson and right-back Gaz Wardell resulted in the former playing a one-two with Darren Clough, who slotted past the home keeper to put Town in charge at half-time.

Wardell then made sure of the victory midway through the second half, winning possession and shooting home from 18 yards.

Taylor said: “Ryedale battled very well and did a lot better than the last time we played them, but we were always in controlof the game.

“Our back four played well, but centre-back Chris Duley was the man of the match as he won everything.”

Ryedale centre-half Ben Thompson was named as their star man for a strong defensive display for the home side.

Saturday League division one leaders West Pier suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to York League division three outfit Kirkbymoorside.

Luke Delve scored the Pier goal in a below-par performance from the hosts, with boss Andy Spivey admitting the Moorsiders were deserved winners.

A depleted USB slipped to a 7-2 loss at Eskvale and Cleveland League side Lealholm.

Craig Rackham scored both goals for the visitors, who only trailed 2-1 at the intervaL.

Dave Oxley’s team turned up at Lealholm with only 11 players and when two limped off just after the hour mark they had to play out the final 25 minutes with only nine men.
