“It’s been a good year for the club and a double for both Filey sides would also be excellent for the club and the town.”

Town’s first team are top of the Scarborough News Saturday League first division and face West Pier in the FA District Cup final on Wednesday May 56, also at Queensgate, 7pm kick-off.

Newlands Reserves boss Joe Hakings said: “The lads are very much up for it. They will be favourites after winning the league but we are well prepared going into it.”

Both men spoke highly of Newlands Reserves man Drew McCoubrey, but Hakings confirmed he is likely to miss the clash through injury.

He said: “Drew will be missing the game and that is a massive loss for us. He’s been fantastic this season but the other lads are all more than capable of helping us win the cup.”

Both sides are wary of their opponents but believe their players have what it takes to lift the trophy at the end of play, Hakings said: “Midfielder Stefan Moon is one to look out for, he’s a very creative player, our midfield maestro and he bags plenty of goals. Hopefully he can add a few more on Monday.”

Brannan added: “Moon and striker Stew Bates have played in big games so they’re the players we need to stop in order to make it a successful season.”

Newlands have their own star man to keep an eye on, as Brannan said: “Jamie Gallagher has plenty of experience in big games and reads the game better than most. He runs all day and he’s a vital player for the team when he plays to his maximum potential.”
