The visitors raced out of the blocks and played some superb, free-flowing football, taking an early lead thanks to a cool finish from central midfielder Stefan Moon.

His central midfield partner Danny Jenkinson doubled the lead on 15 minutes, applying the finishing touch to a great team move.

Only a string of fine saves from the Ryedale keeper kept the Newlands strikes out, but the pressure from the visitors bore fruit as Sean Exley smashed a shot into the top right-hand corner of the net from 18 yards.

Ryedale came out stronger in the second half, but despite having possession they failed to pull a goal back and the visitors came back into the game, scoring twice in the closing 15 minutes to secure the points.

Newlands hit Ryedale on the break in the 75th minute Exley netting his second with a first-time finish and in the closing stages Jenkinson completed his brace after a fine run from Exley’s surging run set him up.

Striker Exley and Jenkinson shared the man of the match award for Newlands, while teenage cub Jamie Deyes also impressed for the victors.

Edgehill 4 (Collins 2, Jowett, G Hepples) Seamer Sports 2 (Lawton, Pinder)

A Danny Collins brace helped Edgehill earn a 4-2 home win against Paddy Parke’s Seamer Sports outfit.

Neither side could break the deadlock in a very keenly-contested first half.

Jackson Jowett, who was the hosts’ man of the match on his debut after joining from Commercial, smashed in the opener from 20 yards, and Collins then broke through to double Edgehill’s lead.

Seamer’s star man Gaz Lawton, who started on the wing but moved up front, held off a challenge and smacked a shot into the top right-hand corner of the net to give the villagers a glimmer of hope.

Collins’ second soon extinguished this hope, and Steve Clegg’s troops then spurned several chances to kill the game off and were nearly made to pay for it.

Debutant Rob Pinder pulled a goal back for the visitors and the home defence were then forced to clear two chances off the line and they were grateful when Gary Hepples fired in the fourth to wrap up the win for Edgehill.

Filey Town 6 (L Flynn 2, Dobson 2, Pinder) Ayton 0

A stunning second-half display from a new-look Filey Town team saw Lalan Flynn, James Pinder and debutant Cameron Dobson score two apiece in a 6-0 win against Ayton.

After a goalless first half, and a disappointing performance from the hosts, it only took Town eight minutes of the second half to surge into a 3-0 lead.

Another new recruit, Danny Price was fouled in the area, and Gary Wardell’s penalty was saved by the Ayton keeper only for Flynn to follow up and slide the ball into the net.

Two minutes later Liam Sugden set up Dobson for his first goal for Town and then Dobson turned creator for young striker Pinder as they went 3-0 up.

Pinder then made it four from Price’s pass and Dobson’s solo effort put it beyond Ayton’s reach.

Dobson played Pinder through in injury-time and another fine save from the Ayton keeper Flynn reacted quickest to make it 6-0.

Town boss Jay Taylor hailed his entire team as the winners of the man of the match award for a cracking second-half performance.

Matty Dawson’s corner was deflected in by an Athletic defender to secure the win after the interval.

The men of the match were centre-backs Drury and youngster Josh Lewis, another new signing from Cayton, while keeper Josh Broadhead also had a solid match. Left-back Jack Brown and central midfielder Paul Reddy impressed for a below-par Falsgrave.
