Saturday League: Edgehill battle back to see off Westover

Edgehill kicked off their 2015/16 season with a 4-3 win against Westover Wasps at Oliver’s Mount.

Steve Clegg’s men had to graft hard to take the three points as Westover battled back on three occasions.

Jackson Jowett fired in twice and Tyler Richardson and Kieran Link also scored, while Callum Gravestock, Aiden McCallion and Chris Hannam banged in goals for Jamie Heritage’s men.

Hunmanby United beat promoted Cayton 5-1, Cameron Dobson, Oli Milner and James Pinder got on the scoresheet, while two own goals cost Cayton, for whom Tom Sixsmith scored.

In the Whitby derby, Whitby Fisherman’s Society took the bragging rights as they beat Whitby RUFC 3-0.

Sam Russell, Dave Welham and Mark Swales all netted for Mark Storr’s men.

Seamer Reserves started life in Division Two with a 5-2 win against Edgehill Reserves.

Newlands Reserves hammered Snainton 7-1 as Stew Bates banged in a hat-trick.

Sleights Reserves dominated their derby clash with Fishburn Reserves, taking a 2-0 win in Division Three.

The visitors eventually led early in the second half when Luke Stokoe nodded home a left-wing corner.

Matt Whitehall bagged Sherburn’s only goal.
