Traf make winning County Cup debut

Trafalgar came back from 2-1 down to earn a 6-3 home win against Henleys AFC in their first-ever North Riding FA Sunday County Cup fixture.

The home side opened the scoring with a free-kick from Lewis Taylor in the 20th minute, but, with their only efforts on goal, the first being a penalty, in the first half the visitors replied to take a 2-1 half-time lead, despite Traf having dominated the opening 45 minutes.

Player-boss Liam Salt brought on Wayne Aziz on at half-time, and this switch paid dividends swiftly as the Pickering defender headed in the leveller for Traf.

A second goal for Taylor and a fine finish from Billy Logan put the home side 4-2 ahead.

Neil Thomas was then sent off after picking up his second yellow card, and the visitors were further buoyed when they pulled it back to 4-3 from their second penalty of the cup-tie.

Salt eased his side’s worries with a fifth goal, after fine work from Logan, almost immediately from the re-start.

The player-boss was then replaced by Rob Pinder who fired in Traf’s sixth shortly after coming on to seal the win.

Central midfielder Jamie Patterson was named as man of the match for the victors.
