Organisers of the Malton Monthly Food Market enjoyed their “busiest ever” event on Saturday.

In its second outing of 2014, there was around 40 food and drink stalls, live music from Malton’s White Star Band and two live cookery demonstrations from Jake Jones, of The Talbot Hotel, and his father, Andrew, chef at The Worsley Arms Hotel, Hovingham. A number of stall holders reported that they had sold out of produce.

Tom Naylor-Leyland, organiser of the market, said: “It was the second market of the year and truly our busiest ever. Gridlock in Malton at noon which is a testament to the wonderful producers and the great free demos during the event.”

Timothy Kirkhope, MEP for Yorkshire & The Humber, also paid a visit, alongside Caroline Abbott, who is standing in this year’s European elections, and Thirsk and Malton MP, Anne McIntosh, as part of the Conservative National European Action Day.

The next Monthly Food Market will be held in June – due to the Food Lovers Festival on May 24 and 25.
