Book lovers are invited to join staff and volunteers at Malton Library on Saturday when they pick up a prestigious award.

It will be crowned North Yorkshire County Council’s Library of the Year.

To celebrate the award, there will be a chance to learn more about the services on offer, talk to team members and volunteers, look through the library’s selection fiction and non-fiction titles and DVDs or - for the younger visitors - complete the Mythical Maze Summer Reading Challenge.

Adult Learning Services will also be on hand to give information and advice on their autumn courses as well Age UK which will offer advice and information.

More than 126,000 visits were made to Malton Library in the last year by adults and children who enjoyed the range of services on offer, such as computer access and children’s activities.

It is also used as a meeting space for organisations, including the Knit and Natter group which meets every Tuesday morning, computer courses on Wednesday morning and children’s stories and crafts on Wednesday afternoons.

The open day runs from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
