If your New Year’s resolution is to get out more, improve your health and social life, or exercise your vocal chords, why not join us?!
That’s the message from Malton District Male Voice Choir, at the start of a year which promises to be one of the busiest since the popular group was founded in 2007.
The choir, which meets on Mondays in Malton Methodist Church, starts again on Monday January 13 and says it is an ideal time to join.
“It’s fun, good company and doesn’t cost the earth”, said chairman Tom Todd. “It will do wonders for your self-esteem and all you need to do is come along to a practice, listen in and see if you like the experience.”
Mr Todd is the driving force behind the 25-strong group and its co-founder. “Anyone can join a choir and almost everyone has a good enough voice to do it,” he said.
“Most of our latest members read about us and simply turned up on practice nights. Thankfully, most of them stayed!”
The choir, whose members range in age from 19 to 87, sings everything from traditional choir to show and popular songs. The repertoire is expanding as the choir gets bigger and is better able to support four-part male voice harmonies.
On April 5 it will join six other North Yorkshire choirs for the first time at a National Association of Choirs Conference Concert in Scarborough’s Westborough Methodist Church. Some 200 singers are involved.
On May 31 it will take part in a joint concert in Malton School with the visiting Newchurch Male Voice Choir from the Isle of Wight.
Further concerts are planned this summer in Scarborough, Pickering, Great Edstone and Stamford Bridge.
