Malton White Star Band can now play music whatever the weather, thanks to a £700 donation.
A new all-weather gazebo, purchased with a gift from Malton Community Interest Company (CIC), will offer shelter for the musicians at their concerts throughout the year.
Conductor Cliff Hicks said: “We at Malton White Star Band are delighted with the new gazebo. It is of excellent quality and looks good in Royal Blue, which complements our new uniforms beautifully. The gazebo means that the show can ‘go on’ whatever the weather. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the Community Interest Company and are so grateful to have found favour in such a practical way.”
Roddy Bushell, spokesman for Malton CIC, said: “We are delighted to be able to help Malton White Star Band to acquire their much-needed gazebo. Our English weather is unpredictable, and those of us helping at the Monthly Food Markets and annual Food Lovers Festival know only too well the challenges posed by working in the open air!
“Malton White Star Band is one of the key aspects at both of these events, adding to the relaxed atmosphere and helping attract more visitors to the town.”
Malton White Star Band, which plays at the Malton Monthly Food Markets, was formed in around 1900. Rehearsals are held at the Band Room, 39a Old Maltongate, Malton, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
