Maynard Flip Flap and Pete White and his Suitcase Circus will be among the street performers lined up for Helmsley’s Summer Celebration.

Running from Yorkshire Day on Friday August 1, to August 3, the weekend will feature food and drink tastings, welly wanging, a river race, dog fancy dress, and the Grand Helmsley Cake Show, among other attractions.

A Wedding Dress Festival is also taking place in Helmsley’s All Saints’ Church from August 2 until Sunday August 10.

Visitors who turn up should also be on the look-out for the clownery, ridiculous tricks and foolish behaviour of Maynard Flip Flap.

He will be joined by Peter White and his Suitcase Circus who is taking part in two shows full of circus skills, comic inventions and audience participation as well as going on a walkabout around Helmsley on his staggering stilts.

Both will appear on August 1.

Em Whitfield Brooks, chairman of the Summer Celebration committee, said: “It should be a great weekend for locals and visitors alike. I have seen the entertainers perform and they are amazing – perfect for all ages, and just really good fun. They’ll turn a mooch round the shops and local businesses into something really out of the ordinary – we guarantee you’ll want to stop and watch! It will make a fun day out for all the family.”
