Wash away the winter blues with a weekend of live music in Pickering.

Eighteen local bands and musicians have signed up for SwanFest which will take place at The Black Swan, Pickering, from February 7 to 9.

Among those taking part during the three-day festival are Chu Ma Shu, David Swann, Phil Friend, Rocketsmith and Smokestack Sunrise.

Organisers Roland Peel and Jake d’Alquen hope SwanFest will become an annual attraction.

“We thought we would try and put something on for the full weekend and hopefully make it a yearly event,” said Roland. “The bands will cover everything from modern chart music to the 60s – basically all types of music. I think Pickering is lucky to have so many quality musicians and SwanFest is a good way to show off this talent.”

Sponsorship for SwanFest has come from Ian Taylor, landlord of The Black Swan; Pulse, who are providing the sound and lighting equipment, and Matthew Wilkinson, of Television House, who has graciously donated the majority of prizes for a raffle, the top prize of which is a hamper filled with spirits, chocolates and other goodies.

Proceeds will go to Ryedale Special Families to make up for an earlier music event at which was blighted by the weather.
