Town’s Old Library ready to be opened after redevelopment

Finishing touches are underway on The Moorside Room at Kirkbymoorside, the town’s former library near the Market Place, in readiness of a big day of celebrations in the town.

The Mayor, Cllr Chris Dowie, said the room which has undergone major redevelopment and refurbishment, is due to be officially opened by her on Saturday when it will become a multi-use community facility in the town.

The opening will coincide with a celebration of the Tour de France 100 Day Cultural Festival and “Made in Kirby”, which will highlight the historic town as the home of a number of major national and international high-tech companies as well as many local businesses.

“The Moorside Room will be a great asset to the many organisations in Kirkbymoorside and the residents in general,” she added.

Local businesses are to be asked to sponsor some of the furnishings in the Moorside Room.

A name sign is to be erected on the building which will be unveiled at the opening.

l Meanwhile, Kirkbymoorside is gearing up for its annual 10k run on Sunday. Now in its 14th year, the course takes in Kirkbymoorside, Gillamoor and Fadmoor, before a downhill finish in front of a crowd of spectators. The Kids dash begins at 12.55pm, followed by the 4K Teens race and fun run at 1pm, with the main event setting off at 2pm.
