Pickering Musical Society Youth Theatre sang, sang and sang some more during a five hour Singathon.

Cllr Joy Andrews, the Mayor of Pickering, joined the youngsters for the start of the event on Saturday which has so far raised £180 - with more to come - for the Kirk Theatre.

Theatre Manager Luke Arnold said how proud he was of the youth members who were willing to give up the first day of their summer holidays to take part in the Singathon, which ran from 10am until 3pm.

Youth Theatre manager Anne Mortlock added: “It was a lovely way to finish for the summer. Singing all our favourite songs and raising vital funds for the theatre at the same time.”

Refreshments and a raffle were also organised by the fundraising group and a steady stream of people called in to watch.

The Youth Theatre starts back on October 18 and meets every Saturday morning, from 10am to 11.30am, and is open to anyone aged eight to 18.

“We will be working hard on our Christmas show next, which is on Saturday 13th December,“ added Anne, “so I hope all the youth members have a relaxing and fun summer break.”
